Boat Day!

This past weekend, we had two birthday parties, one for Lilian and one for our friend Josh. To celebrate Josh, we all booked tickets on the Liberty Clipper for a Sunday brunch cruise. What a lovely day for a sail it was! I’d love to show you pictures, but I have exactly one. Of the back of two of our friends’ heads.

I wish we had more, but my camera was apparently in video mode the entire time Kristian was trying to take my picture with it. So, you’re just going to have to go ahead and trust me that the harbor looked beautiful.

The ship leaves the pier under motor power, but once it gets out onto the water, they draft a bunch of people to help them raise the sails. And then it’s two hours of sailing around in circles, eating quiche, and enjoying the view.

I was a little worried that bringing our baby onto a smallish ship where she wouldn’t be able to crawl was a recipe for disaster. Especially since we had to cut her nap short in order to get there on time. But it all worked out perfectly. Lilian smiled and charmed the other passengers for about an hour, and then Kristian brought her down below deck and she napped for the rest of the trip. At which point, we got to hold hands and have an adult conversation.

I miss having Lilian sleep on my chest, but it sure is nice to be able to bring her out into the world and watch her enjoy the scenery.

This celebration was another milestone: the first time we got the whole gang together since Yogurt and his GF moved back to Boston. Josh is still living 5 hours away, but at least we’re all  in the same timezone now! I really hope that this is the first of many times that we all get together.
